The Sutta-Pitaka is the \u2018basket\u2019 of discourses&nbsp; (sutta\u2019s) attributed to the historical Buddha and his main disciples<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sutta-Pitaka is part of the Pali-Canon together with the Vinaya-Pitaka (the \u2018basket\u2019 of the monastic rules) and the Abhi\u00addhamma-Pitaka (the \u2018basket\u2019 with detailed scholastic presentations of doctrinal material). Together they form the body of sacred texts of Theravada Buddhism. The Pali-Canon or Ti\u00adpitaka (\u2018three baskets\u2019) contain the oldest extant scriptures of the Buddhist tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Samyutta-Nikaya contains 2904 suttas, divided into 56 books (samyuttas), each of which deals with a particular theme. In the many, often very short, suttas of the Samyutta-Nikaya, the Buddha&#8217;s radical insights into human nature are presented and his unique path to spiritual liberation from suffering in this world is shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This book contains a translation of the second volume of the five-volume Samyutta-Nikaya, (&#8216;The Connected Discourses ofthe Buddha&#8217;), the Book of Causes (Nidana-Vagga). The entire collection consists of 56 books (samyuttas), each dealing with a particular theme. This second volume contains 10 of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NB The cover image on this page and on the order page shows an incorrect subtitle &#8220;The Book of the Links&#8221;.
